Sign up now for Ohio River Valley Woodland and Wildlife Workshop

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Landowners from Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky can learn more about timber management, invasive plants, tree identification and other topics at the Ohio River Valley Woodlands and Wildlife Workshop.

The workshop will be held March 17 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Oasis Golf Club and Conference Center, 902 Loveland-Miamiville Road, Loveland, Ohio. The event is co-sponsored by Purdue Extension, University of Kentucky Extension, and The Ohio State University Extension.

“It’s vital for all landowners to have timely, accurate information about a wide variety of issues in order to properly manage their property,” says Purdue Forestry and Natural Resources Extension Coordinator Brian MacGowan, a workshop organizer. “This workshop includes 15 information-packed sessions and you can choose to attend those sessions covering topics that are most relevant to your particular property.”

Session topics and presenters include:

* “New Herbicides for the Management of Nuisance Aquatic Plants: And Some Aquatic Plant Management News” - Eugene Braig, Ohio State University Extension.

* “Tree Identification” - Doug McLaren, forestry Extension specialist at University of Kentucky.

* “How Invasive Plants Impact Forest Wildlife” - Marne Titchenell, Ohio State University Extension, and Brian MacGowan, Purdue University Extension.

* “Renovating Native Warm-Season Grass Stands for Wildlife: Fixing Past Mistakes” - Jarred Brooke, Purdue University Extension.

* “Timber Management Practices for Your Woodland” - Richard Cristan, Kentucky State University.

* “Invasive Plants” - Laurie Thomas, University of Kentucky Extension.

* “Native Bees” - Denise Ellsworth, Ohio State University Extension.

* “Economic Outlook for Forest Products Industries” - Sayeed Mehmood, Ohio State University Extension.

* “Woodland Management after EAB” - Kathy Smith, Ohio State University Extension.

* “How to Manage for Bats in Your Woodland” - Tim Divoll and Joy O’Keefe, Indiana State University.

* “Boundaries and Trails” - Laurie Thomas, University of Kentucky Extension.

* “Black Vulture Damage Control” - Matt Springer, University of Kentucky Extension.

* “Ten Ways to Manage Wildlife in Your Woods” - Brian MacGowan, Purdue University Extension.

* “Your Land, Your Legacy” - Dave Apsley, Ohio State University Extension.

* “Weird Things in the Woods: Some Common Pests and Diseases” - Joe Boggs, Ohio State University Extension.

Registration is required by phone, by mail, or online by March 9. Cost is $45 until Feb. 28 and $55 after that. Lunch will be provided.
