High school students attend Purdue camp on teaching and diversity

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — More than 30 high school students will come to Purdue for EXCITE!, a five-day residential camp held on campus beginning Sunday (July 16).

The College of Education developed EXCITE! to provide high school students with experiences that will inspire and encourage them to discover teaching as a career and to consider one of Purdue’s 15 teaching majors.

Nicole Wilson, the college’s director of diversity initiatives, said, “Students explore the dynamic profession of teaching and all the ways that teachers make an impact. The camp offers students mentoring opportunities and a glimpse into the rich variety resources that Purdue’s teacher education programs offer.”

Attendees will explore Purdue campus life and diversity-related resources, participate in hands-on teacher education coursework, network with current students and faculty from Purdue's teacher education programs and gain experience mentoring local students.

Campers and their parents will attend a closing ceremony from 1:30-2:30 p.m. July 21 in Meredith Hall.
