Fast Track introduces new weekly live format

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue University’s student video newsmagazine, “Fast Track,” has introduced a new weekly live format.

“Fast Track Live” will air at 5:30 p.m. Monday evenings on Comcast Channel 5 and the Purdue Channel, during the fall and spring semesters. The program is a continuation of the original “Fast Track” programming that was created about eight years ago, in the Brian Lamb School of Communication. “Fast Track” is a pre-recorded half-hour weekly television news show that focuses on people and events in the Purdue community.

The Brian Lamb School of Communication has integrated two new courses to the original “Fast Track” capstone. The entry-level course of “Multiplatform Journalism” and the new addition of “Fast Track Live” have been introduced so that broadcast journalism students have the opportunity for a hands-on education.  The series begins with “Multiplatform Journalism” and ends with “Fast Track Live.” The series was created for students to create portfolios.

“The Fast Track program is completely career focused. The most important thing for these mass communication students is to graduate with a portfolio, demo reels and that is what they achieve from these three Fast Track courses,” said Doug Osman, adviser to “Fast Track” and clinical assistant professor in the Brian Lamb School of Communication.
