National Labs event brings in professionals to Purdue campus

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Representatives from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, Los Alamos National Laboratory and others will converge on Purdue University next week.

National Labs @ Purdue Days (NL@P) — sponsored by Purdue’s Graduate School and Graduate Student Professional Development — also features Sandia National Laboratories, the National Institute of Standards and Technology, and Argonne National Laboratory.

The event gives graduate, postdoctorate and undergraduate students an opportunity to pursue a career at national laboratories and federally funded research and development.

Mark J.T. Smith, dean of the Graduate School, said the event offers the potential for other career opportunities.

“Graduate students tend to receive a lot of information about companies, but not so much for government laboratories,” he said. “Our national labs event helps fill this gap, exposing Purdue students to many excellent internship and research employment opportunities available at these prestigious laboratories.”

The event runs from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday (Nov. 7) on the second floor of Stewart Center. A career fair is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday (Nov. 8), also on Stewart Center’s second floor.

Tuesday’s agenda features professional development, employer information sessions and tech talks by national labs. Purdue alumni Pylin Sarobol and Eric O’Rear will be among the speakers.

Students can register in advance for Tuesday’s sessions and the career fair at the event website. Preregistration is highly recommended.
