Week set aside to recognize student employees
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The National Student Employment Association and Student Employment Services in Purdue's Division of Financial Aid, along with universities across the country, encourage both campus and community employers to recognize their student employees during National Student Employment Week, April 10-16. The week is set aside annually to acknowledge the importance of the student work experience.
"The benefits of working can reach beyond the need for a paycheck," said David Reseigh, assistant director of outreach services in Purdue's Division of Financial Aid. "Employment can offer a student career-development opportunities and enhance relevant job skills that can better prepare them for the job market upon graduation.
"It is very important for employers to set aside time to recognize the efforts of their student employees and the important role they play in the workplace."
Purdue offers a variety of programs such as federal work study, cooperative education and internship opportunities to bring student workers and employers together.
"Both campus employers and local nonprofit agencies can benefit from hiring federal work-study eligible students as the government subsidizes the student's wage, sometimes up to 100 percent for some specific job programs," Reseigh said.
