NIH Required Data Management and Sharing Plan
Effective for proposals submitted or due on or after January 25, 2023, NIH will require the submission of a DATA MANAGEMENT & SHARING PLAN (DMSP) for ALL proposals. A summary of the requirement is included below along with links to several resources.

- “The DMS Policy applies to all NIH research, funded or conducted in whole or in part by NIH, that results in the generation of scientific data. The DMS Policy does not apply to research and other activities that do not generate scientific data, for example: research training, fellowships, infrastructure development, and non-research activities.”
- Purdue Libraries presented a workshop on 1/11/2023. The workshop discussed items such as data management and sharing plan development, specific policy components, and provided information about avenues for support and resources available to Purdue researchers. - The plan must be included in the proposal but is not a part of the peer review. Prior to award, the DMS Plan must be approved by NIH. If changes are needed, this will occur through the JIT process.

- Full cost for the repository can be included and should be fully paid prior to expiration of the project.
- Resource Sharing Plan(s)
- Previously required for Projects over $500K, Research Tools, Creating a new Model Organism, Genomic Data, etc.
- The Resource Sharing Plan requirement no longer include the Genomic Data Sharing Plan. This is now part of the new Data Management and Sharing Plan
- Projects over $500K no longer a qualifier. See below.
