Accessibility at Purdue

Course Information:

This course introduces the basics of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and digital accessibility. It explains key ADA provisions as they apply to making education, employment, services, and activities accessible to all. Topics include how to interact with individuals with disabilities in the workplace and where to find University resources for employees, students, and visitors seeking assistance or reasonable accommodations. 

Learning Objectives:

• Explain the purpose of the ADA and how Titles I and II apply to employment and public programs at Purdue.
• Identify the criteria that define a disability under the ADA, including examples of protected and non-protected conditions.
• Demonstrate respectful disability etiquette in everyday interactions, including appropriate use of person-first and identity-first language.
• Apply WCAG 2.1 AA principles (perceivable, operable, understandable, robust) to create accessible digital content.
• Locate Purdue resources for requesting accommodations, reporting access issues, and filing complaints based on role and campus.

Audience: All Purdue faculty and staff.

Completion Time: 30 Minutes
