This training is designed to help F-1 and J-1 students understand their compliance requirements. Students will learn how to maintain legal status while working toward their degree, including full-time enrollment rules, online course limits, employment restrictions, and program extensions. The course includes practical examples and tips to help students manage their responsibilities and protect their immigration status.
Learning Objectives:
Audience: All new and current international students enrolled in a residential program at Purdue University (including West Lafayette, Indianapolis and Polytechnic campuses). Students are automatically enrolled in this course. Students do not manually register.
Completion Time: Approximately 45 Minutes
ISS Training does not need to be completed before the start of the semester. ISS Training will always be activated in Brightspace one week before the semester begins. Students will receive a Brightspace notification and email once the course is activated. Students have approximately 30 days to complete the course before a registration hold is placed.

Recurrence: All new and current international students are automatically enrolled in this course each semester. Students do not manually register.

Who has to complete ISS Training?
All new and current international students in residential programs are required to complete ISS Training each semester. Students are automatically enrolled in the course in Brightspace (no manual registration is needed).
When is ISS Training available?
ISS Training is activated in Brightspace one week before the semester begins. You will receive a Brightspace notification and an email when the course is available.

What if I don’t complete ISS Training?
If you do not complete ISS Training within the allowed window, a registration hold will be placed on your account.
I have a hold for ISS Training on my account, and I can’t add or drop classes. What do I do to remove the hold?
Complete the ISS Training course in Brightspace. Once you finish, the hold is released automatically; hold release runs hourly and may take up to one hour after completion.
