Below are simple GI Bill ® checklists for new students, transfer students and continuing students. Click here for a more comprehensive checklist.
New Student GI Bill ® Checklist
- Complete an application for GI Bill ® benefits (for a child using transfer of entitlement you must wait until turning 18 or graduating from High School before applying).
- Check your residency status on your admissions acceptance letter. If you were accepted as a non-resident, review Purdue’s military residency policy.
- Register for classes.
- 60 days prior to the start of the term, complete a “Request for Enrollment Certification” form and return it to the Veterans Success Center via email at dogtags@purdue.edu along with a copy of your Certificate of Eligibility or Statement of Benefits.
- Chapter 1606, Chapter 30, and Chapter 33 must “verify your attendance” on the last day of every month in order to receive payment.
Transfer Student GI Bill ® Checklist
- If you have received benefits at a prior school you will need to complete a “ Request for Change of Program or Place of Training”- VA form 22-1995 located here: https://www.va.gov/education/change-gi-bill-benefits/
- Check your residency status on your admissions acceptance letter. If you were accepted as a non-resident, review Purdue’s military residency policy.
- Register for classes.
- 60 days prior to the start of the term, Complete a “Request for Enrollment Certification” form and return it to the Veterans Success Center via email at dogtags@purdue.edu along with a copy of your Certificate of Eligibility or Statement of Benefits.

- If you make any adjustments to your schedule, notify the Veterans Success Center at dogtags@purdue.edu.
- Chapter 1606, Chapter 30, and Chapter 33 must “verify your attendance” on the last day of every month in order to receive payment.
