Welcome Event for Visiting Brazilian Scholars

Institute for a Sustainable Future
August 30, 2019
4:30 PM - 6:00 PM
Ringel Gallery, Stewart Center

Description

The Zanotti lab in the Department of Anthropology is pleased to welcome visiting scholars Eduardo Rafael Galvão and Maria Gabriela Fink Salgado to campus this fall semester. We are also excited to host Mêbêngôkre filmmaker Pat-i Kayapó, who joins the lab as an Honors college visiting scholar. The scholars will be working on projects that focus on socio-environmental impacts of artisanal mining, indigenous led art and media initiatives, and sustainable solar systems. Geographically centered on the Kayapó Indigenous Lands, one of the largest remaining and bioculturally diverse intact forest and savannah landscapes in the world, this work aims to address global environmental grand challenges while at the same time tackling food security and climate change issues.

This event is sponsored by the Center for the Environment, The Department of Anthropology, and Purdue College of Liberal Arts Office of the Dean.
