About Mentorship

One way to ensure excellence among Purdue’s faculty is through mentoring. Department heads are encouraged to assign to new faculty members an established faculty colleague to provide guidance in the development of their research/scholarship, teaching, and other aspects of their mission. Depending on the size and breadth of the unit, more than one senior faculty member may be needed. In some cases, a small committee with one or more mentors from outside has proven to be effective. Several colleges within Purdue have developed plans to follow. Department heads are urged to check with their units or to develop their own plans.
