Mozen received the Gilman Scholarship to study abroad in Japan. She was drawn to the Regulatory and Clinical Science for Global Health in Japan program due to its connection to the Shibaura Institute of Technology. Japan provides the perfect fit for her interest in innovative biomedical technology engineering as the country is a global leader in the pharma and MedTech industries. Drawing on her past work with Bristol Myer Squibb and studies at Purdue, Mozen is prepared to advance her understanding of advanced topics on a global scale.
Japan will not be Mozen’s first international experience. She spent part of her childhood in Sudan until political disruptions forced her family to relocate to the U.S. Her perspective as a Black Sudanese American woman leads to an awareness of inclusivity and the power to break down stereotypes around her identities. Her goals include supporting and encouraging members of her community to achieve. She made waves as the founding president of Purdue’s chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers and participates in the Minority Engineering Program.
To continue her mission of empowering others, Mozen plans to become a mentor to fellow students and even establish a new study abroad mentorship program with the National Society of Black Engineers as her follow-on project.
