Renee Lutterbach was awarded the Gilman Scholarship to study abroad in Singapore at the National University of Singapore. As a political science major, she views Singapore as the ideal place to be with its history of changing international political economies and establishing a national identity with a diverse population. She looks forward to gaining experience in an international setting which will prove invaluable for her career goals.

 

Studying world languages is nothing new to Renee. Having already studied Arabic, she plans to expand her studies to include Malay while in Singapore due to their similar alphabets. Acquiring a basic proficiency in Malay will enhance her ability to communicate and connect while on her study abroad.

 

Recognizing that many students need to plan ahead to study abroad and understand the resources available to make it happen, Renee intends to visit her high school to present on her experiences and the Gilman scholarship as her follow-on project.
