Established in 2001, the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program is committed to sending American students of limited financial means from all backgrounds to study abroad.

 

Foluke Ajiboye was awarded the Gilman Scholarship to study abroad in Spain as an exchange student at the Carlos III University of Madrid. With her minor and experiences with the Spanish language, she is well-prepared to navigate Madrid. This program provides the best place to enhance her minor and gain perspective on Spanish politics and society.

 

Through engaging in her community in Spain, Foluke is committed to building connections and showcasing America’s diversity as Nigerian American. She looks forward to introducing American food, literature, and pop culture to her new community in Madrid and learning from them about their culture, history, and landmarks.

 

Recognizing how many students are visual learners, she plans to vlog about her experiences as part of her follow-on project that she will share with the high school in her hometown to encourage their continued world language studies.
