Teaching in the English for STEM program in Uzbekistan is the culmination of a concerted effort by Emily Cottle to return to this country. Instantly fascinated with Uzbekistan during a brief visit from where she once stayed in Xinjiang Province, China, Emily’s personal and professional goals motivated her to choose this country.  With an engineering job offer and graduate school in hand by the end of her senior year, Emily knew that she would defer these plans to seek the professional development achieved in a Fulbright year.

Emily’s interest in English for STEM grew out of her first engineering job that required her to communicate technical information in English. Having worked with global engineering teams from China to Mexico, she quickly noticed how technical vocabulary is not taught to second language learners.  Emily seeks to equip herself through the Fulbright experience for her future as a global engineer and cultural liaison to a company’s global teams and markets.
