Emily received a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (ETA) to Mexico. Growing up in Texas, Emily was surrounded by the Spanish language, and she looks forward to using her ETA as an opportunity to progress towards Spanish fluency and explore Mexico’s rich cultural heritage.

At Purdue, Emily was a triple major in Political Science, Spanish, and Sociology. Motivated to serve vulnerable populations, Emily seeks out experiences that allow her to make a positive difference in people’s lives, which she has previously done by volunteering at LARA, an adult learning academy in Lafayette, Indiana, where she served as a teaching assistant for English language learners. Working on behalf of others also means listening to and valuing people’s stories, something Emily did during her time as an editor with Purdue’s The Exponent. In her work, Emily is also prepared to continue using stories to bring students and community together, create space for communication, and build relationships. Her time in Mexico will pave the way for her aspiration to become an effective, empathetic immigration attorney dedicated to working at the U.S. border.
