Isabella Pendolino was awarded the Gilman Scholarship to study abroad in Italy on the Investigating Women’s Reproductive and Sexual Health Issues program. While in Florence, she will have the opportunity to conduct research through interviewing Italians about their experiences with reproductive and sexual healthcare. By conducting this research, she hopes the results can be used to improve the resources available to Purdue students. As an aspiring healthcare professional, she looks forward to gaining experience with diverse patient populations and increasing her communication skills.

Isabella’s dedication to building her skillset so she can serve her future patients with care, respect, and capability shines through her work. Over the years, she has volunteered in home health and transitional facilities for patients from a variety of ages, health issues, and backgrounds. Each experience has served to solidify her commitment to her career goals.

Isabella recognizes the challenges nursing students face in learning about study abroad opportunities that fit into their coursework. To increase awareness of study abroad’ s benefits and Gilman, she plans to present to her peers about her experiences in hopes that some of them may choose to go overseas, too.
