Lily Peck was offered the Gilman Scholarship to study abroad in the U.K. as an exchange student at the Queen Mary University of London. While there, she hoped to increase her cultural competence and grow her knowledge of U.K.’s history and culture through visiting museums and historical locations. The university there offered a chance to study inorganic chemistry, increase her writing ability, and take unique courses in the fields of genetics and classics. As an aspiring pediatrician oncologist, she looked forward to developing her ability to adapt and converse in new contexts.

Having led a group of cyclists across America, Lily is already familiar with navigating unfamiliar terrain. She led her group, the deCycles, both from the East to the West Coast and from Mexico to Canada. This experience prepared her well for her study abroad.

Lily proposed to reach out to youth across Indiana involved in classics studies through her follow-on project. She hoped to create a video series highlighting U.K. locations important to Greek and Roman history.
