Aurora Lyons was awarded the Gilman Scholarship to study abroad in the U.K. on the IFSA-Oxford University program. For an avid fan of the Inklings and other British authors who taught at Oxford, there is no better place to study their lives and works while honing her own craft. With the ability to visit the Oxford Student Publications Limited and Oxford University Poetry Society, this study abroad is a dream come true for this writer and poet. She looks forward to strengthening her writing skills, exploring publishing in the U.K., and widening her network of writers while on this study abroad.

 

In addition to writing, Aurora has another love: rabbits. A proud pet owner of three house rabbits, she is excited to connect with the pet community in London. They provide a good connection point since pet rabbits are popular in the U.K.

 

Teatime is a staple in English culture. As her follow-on project, Aurora plans to host a teatime event for her peers in Horizons so that they can experience a piece of the U.K. while learning about study abroad and Gilman. At this casual event, the students in the Horizons program will be able to stop by for a cup of tea, learn about options to go overseas, and share stories.
