Established in 2001, the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program is committed to sending American students of limited financial means from all backgrounds to study abroad.

Sierra Kipp received a Gilman Scholarship to study abroad in Brazil. While studying at the Universidade de São Paulo, she will be conducting research in food science. As a Spanish languages and literature minor, she is excited to make the switch to Portuguese and test her ability to quickly adapt to a new language environment. The global experience she gains from her program in Brazil prepares her for her future aspirations in international organizations related to food and agriculture.

In her free time, Sierra dedicates her time to the Internationally Connected in Agriculture’s Future group, which focuses on encouraging a unifying agricultural approach. She is committed to global awareness and supporting programs that emphasize addressing international challenges such as Peace Corps and the United Nations.

Sierra’s role in the Food Science Club provides the perfect opportunity to address challenges food science majors face when looking for study abroad programs. Her follow-on project will be a presentation that addresses cost and program identification in addition to sharing about her experiences studying abroad with Gilman Scholarship.
