Madailein Hittle was awarded the Gilman Scholarship to study abroad on the Design History in France, the United Kingdom, and Belgium program. With some of the world’s most famous constructions, including Versailles, the Louve, and the Roman Baths, this program fulfills the dreams of this interior design major. She looks forward to seeing how different cultures impact design choices and how they have changed over time.

 

With her eye on international interior design, Madailein has the chance to explore a new design perspective and build new professional relationships. Spatial awareness and design elements are different depending on the culture of the designer, so she will be able to compare and contrast how four different countries balance culture in their structures.

 

Having watched a previous student present on study abroad when Madailein was a first-year student, Madailein is excited for the chance to do the same for the next generation of students. As part of her follow-on project, she plans to present to the first-year course in her major to show them how and why study abroad can enhance their program.
