Recipient of the 2025 Astronaut Scholarship, Arjun Gupte was recognized for his promising research and development of AI systems, including robotics and human-robot interaction (HRI). Beginning with his contributions to an NSF-funded project as a research assistant at the Purdue Smart Machine and Assistive Robotics Technology Lab, Arjun has persistently pursued innovation through research. His commitment to a research career is evident not only in a multitude of co-authored publications and presentations, but also in his capacity to lead others with a creative vision for problem solving.

 

Arjun has a natural talent for sharing knowledge and mentoring others. Whether speaking to a technical or general audience, Arjun is motivated to communicate his research in a compelling manner. He serves as an inspiration to young people through his commitment to STEM education and outreach for robotics and AI programming in public schools. Writing in strong support of his nomination were both Dr. Byung-Cheol Min in the Department of Computer and Information Technology and Dr. James Davis in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Purdue.
