Recipient of the 2023 Goldwater Scholarship, James Fazioli defines what it means to persistently pursue a career in scientific research at Purdue. From his ability to see opportunity where others might see none to his diligence in doing the work of research, James demonstrates his commitment through his actions every day.

Without hesitation, James started in the humble position of shadowing students in the Pasternak Lab, where he quickly mastered methodologies and grew to become a valuable member of this research team. In addition to co-authoring a manuscript, James initiated his own independent research. With his specific interest in virology, James looks to pursue a Ph.D. toward a career in industrial biological research.

Engaging in the Purdue community through WorldHealth Purdue, James organized and led service initiatives, including the annual domestic service trip. A precursor to his Boilermaker performance, James received the Eagle Scout Award in 2020.
