Joseph Conway was awarded the Gilman Scholarship to study abroad in Norway where he will spend the academic year at the University of Bergen. He will dedicate one semester to completing his philosophy degree requirements and the other gaining experience for his post-graduation plans.

 

Motivating him to choose this Nordic country is Norway’s thriving café culture and increased focus on sustainability. Cafes and coffee are two things Joseph loves. While in Norway, he will take the opportunity to visit coffee shops and learn Norwegian through conversation. In fact, his passion for coffee inspires his aspirations to own a café shop someday. In the meantime, he seeks to gain an understanding of coffee culture around the world.

 

The Gilman follow-on project provides Joseph with the perfect opportunity to utilize one of his favorite hobbies: videography. He intends to create a video of his experiences while in Norway that can be shared with his peers overseas and back home to introduce them to Norway and the Gilman.
