Aspiring to be a marine robotics engineer in an oceanographic research organization, Meredith Bloss will take her next giant leap with the Fulbright Research/Study award to work alongside researchers in the Centre d'Investigació en Robòtica Submarina at the Universitat de Girona (CIRS-UdG) in Girona, Spain. From visiting underwater archaeology centers within Spain to creating connections with CIRS and other EU research centers, Meredith envisions a future career where she collaborates on the international stage and understands how completing the Fulbright grant in Spain will equip her on this path. Eager to engage in community though her shared love of running, Meredith looks forward to joining a local running club, gaining a new perspective on the city, and competing in annual races and trail runs. When mapping algorithms for marine monitoring, Meredith will focus on tracking algal blooms that contribute to large marine dead zones: “I will adapt my algorithms for use onboard the custom underwater vehicles in CIRS's fleet,” she notes, “with an end outcome of a tested algorithm and a manuscript draft.”
