Bridget Benson was awarded the Gilman Scholarship to study abroad in Italy on the Centers for Academic Programs Abroad (CAPA) Purdue Summer Program in Florence. Although covid-19 prevented her previous study abroad from going through, she did not give up. Now she heads to Italy with the chance to learn Italian and build her confidence through immersing in another culture.

 

Having worked throughout high school and college, Bridget has mastered being able to juggle multiple commitments. Resilient and independent, she is ready to challenge herself and thrive in Florence.

 

As part of Alpha Xi Delta, Bridget recognizes that many of the women in her sorority want to study abroad if they can find the financial resources to do so. Therefore, her proposed follow-on project is to present to her peers there and be an alumni contact for them later.
