Naja Barnes was awarded the Gilman Scholarship to study abroad in the United Kingdom on the Centers for Academic Programs Abroad – London: Wrongful Convictions program. This program is perfect for this aspiring lawyer with her interest in justice systems and civil rights. She will gain exposure to international law while getting to see how the U.K. criminal justice system works in comparison to the U.S. system.
Naja is always on the move. Besides studying, she is also contributing to “Aurum,” a political fashion and arts magazine she started and participating in research to create an internship aimed at increasing diversity in the Statehouse.
Being able to take a global perspective greatly enhances one’s understanding of philosophy across time periods and cultures and can challenging existing views on justice systems around the world. Therefore, she will promote her experiences and the Gilman to philosophy majors interested in justice and injustice as her follow-on project.
