Vijay Raghunathan appointed to national advisory board to help shape U.S. semiconductor workforce, strengthening Purdue\u2019s leadership<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Vijay Raghunathan, Purdue\u2019s vice president for global partnerships and programs, director of semiconductor education, and a professor in the Elmore Family School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, has been appointed as an inaugural member of the Workforce Advisory Board for the National Semiconductor Technology Center. Raghunathan is one of only four representatives from major universities selected to join the 18-member board and will serve as a key voice in national efforts to build and strengthen the semiconductor talent pipeline. This appointment underscores Purdue\u2019s national leadership in semiconductor education and workforce development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AP video \u2014 LA wildfires: Assessing the safety of water systems<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Andrew Whelton, a professor of civil engineering and environmental and ecological engineering at Purdue University who studies the impact of wildfires on drinking water systems, has traveled numerous times to the sites of major U.S. wildfires in recent years to assist government agencies and local municipalities in recovery efforts. As the Los Angeles area deals with multiple wildfires and their aftereffects, he notes that it can generally take a few days to over a year to find and repair damage by a wildfire to a water system and restore service to a community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Purdue innovation showcased at 2025 Consumer Electronics Show<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Purdue has brought its strengths in semiconductors, artificial intelligence and other innovative areas to this week\u2019s Consumer Electronics Show<\/a> in Las Vegas. Known as CES, the annual expo is considered the world\u2019s largest showcase of the latest consumer electronics. Purdue\u2019s presence also includes its expertise in industry partnerships and entrepreneurship. From a booth at CES, Purdue Strategic Ventures, the Purdue Innovates<\/a> Office of Technology Commercialization, and the Indiana Economic Development Corporation are networking with existing partners, exploring new partnerships through research and licensing, and learning about new technologies and companies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2024 at Purdue: A Boilermaker Year in Review<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Purdue University broke new records in almost all dimensions of student admissions and success, research and innovation, finance and philanthropy, infrastructure and partnerships, rankings and visibility in fiscal year 2024, which concluded in June. Then the second half of 2024 saw the opening of the first urban expansion of Purdue\u2019s main campus, growth of the Mitch Daniels School of Business, major wins in Purdue Computes research and industry partnership, and the launch of the One Health initiative. Here are a couple of memorable Boilermaker moments from each month of 2024. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

SK hynix receives $458 million of CHIPS Incentives Award for AI semiconductor facility and R&D center at Purdue Research Park<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Purdue\u2019s historic partnership with SK hynix received the definitive award from the CHIPS and Science Act to fund SK hynix\u2019s semiconductor advanced packaging plant for artificial intelligence products and an R&D center in West Lafayette. On Dec. 19, the U.S. Department of Commerce announced up to $458 million in direct funding to bolster the SK hynix investment. The award comes from the CHIPS Incentives Program\u2019s funding for commercial facilities. The Purdue partnership with SK hynix<\/a> fills a critical gap in the U.S. semiconductor supply chain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
