Faculty/staff mentors for undergraduate researchers sought for 2023-24 programs

The Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) has two programs now accepting research projects from faculty and staff to engage undergraduate students. 

The OUR Scholars program is accepting applications from faculty and staff researchers for the 2023-24 academic year. Researchers can post available positions to OURConnect for interested students to apply directly by March 15. Students will apply to approved projects from March 20 through April 3. Complete details can be found on the OUR Scholars website. 

This research scholarship program recognizes undergraduate student engagement in original research, scholarship or creative work under the guidance of a Purdue faculty or approved mentor. These annual, nonrenewable academic scholarships of $1,000 are made available through an equal partnership between the Office of Undergraduate Research and each of the participating colleges and schools. 

The First-Year Investigators Program (FYI) is seeking projects from faculty and staff researchers for the Fall 2023 semester for current FYI students. Researchers interested in hosting an FYI student researcher this fall semester can post available projects to OURConnect by March 20. Students will apply to projects within OURConnect from March 22 through April 3. 

FYI is an undergraduate research program targeted to involve first-year students in research early in their academic career. Students spend the first semester (spring) undergoing training in research basics in preparation for a research experience. The OUR provides a stipend directly to the students to complete their original research, scholarship or creative work projects during the fall semester under the guidance of a Purdue research mentor. The FYI Program pairs the first-time researchers with a trained peer mentor and within an online undergraduate research course to provide comprehensive wrap-around support during their research experience.
