Latest edition of Purdue Journal of Service-Learning and International Engagement released, now accepting student-authored submissions

The ninth volume of the Purdue Journal of Service-Learning and International Engagement (PJSL) is now published online and is available in print upon request from Liz Brite, PJSL editor in the Office of Engagement, at britee@purdue.edu. Due to limited quantity, print editions will be available on a first-come basis.

Visit the PJSL website at https://www.purdue.edu/engagement/pjsl/ to read and download articles written by Purdue students and faculty about different community engagement projects and experiences locally and globally.

Proposals and articles are currently being accepted for consideration in the 10th volume of the PJSL. Publication in the Fall 2023 issue requires proposals be received no later than Jan. 15, 2023. Submissions can be made directly to the PJSL website at http://docs.lib.purdue.edu/pjsl/.

Proposals are accepted on a rolling basis, and those received after the deadline will be considered for the following issue.

Faculty and staff are encouraged to share this information with students interested in publishing an article and are also encouraged to mentor a student writing an article.

Article types include:

  • Reflective Essay: a student-authored description of a community engagement project (3500 words).
  • Research with Reflection: a student-authored research article which may be secondarily co-authored by a faculty member or community partner describing an engagement project using quantitative, qualitative or mixed-methods research methodology (3500 words).
  • Community Partner Snapshot: a student-authored description of a community partner/organization and the service opportunities for students and faculty within the organization (1000 words).
  • Faculty Profile Interview: a student-authored interview with a faculty member involved in service-learning and/or community engagement initiatives (1,500 words).

Submissions also are being accepted for a new category of community-inspired journal cover art. The journal is seeking artwork, photography, digital design or other graphic illustrations that are inspired by community engagement, either at the local or international levels.

For more information about submissions or the editorial process, contact Brite at britee@purdue.edu or visit the PJSL website at http://docs.lib.purdue.edu/pjsl/.
