University flu shot events to begin next week on West Lafayette campus

Seasonal flu shots, which support the physical health pillar of the Healthy Boiler Program, are provided annually at no charge to all benefits-eligible Purdue faculty and staff, as well as spouses and dependents covered on a Purdue health plan, through a variety of means. Flu shot distribution via the Center for Healthy Living (CHL) begins Sept. 7 on the West Lafayette campus. Flu shot availability is outlined below.

Drive-through flu shots at the Center for Healthy Living

The Center for Healthy Living (CHL), located at 1400 W. State St., Building B, Suite C, on Purdue’s West Lafayette campus, will begin distributing flu shots on Sept. 7 with convenient, drive-through flu vaccines.

No appointment is required to obtain a flu vaccine at the CHL via drive-through, walk-in or at the on-campus events hosted by the CHL. Individuals should bring their Purdue University ID (PUID) card or their Anthem medical plan ID card.

Drive-through flu shots will be offered on the south side of the center on Wednesdays and Thursdays throughout September and October, with both morning and evening time slots available for added convenience. The CHL drive-through flu shot schedule is below:

  • September
    • Wednesdays (Sept. 7, 14, 21, 28), 7-9 a.m.
    • Thursdays (Sept. 8, 15, 22, 29), 4-6 p.m.
  • October
    • Wednesdays (Oct. 5 and 12), 7-9 a.m. and 4-6 p.m. 
    • Thursdays (Oct. 6 and 13), 7-9 a.m. and 4-6 p.m.

CHL-hosted on-campus flu shot events

In addition, the CHL has on-campus flu shot events planned as follows:  

  • Sept. 9 – 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Smalley West Conference Room.
  • Sept. 20 – 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Stewart Center, Room 310.
  • Oct. 14 – 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. 2550 Northwestern Ave., Room 1200A.
  • Oct. 20 – 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Stewart Center, Room 214 ABCD.
  • Oct. 26 – 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Stewart Center, Room 214 ABCD.

Individuals should bring their Purdue University ID (PUID) card or their Anthem medical plan ID card. No appointment is required.

Walk-in flu shots at CHL

The CHL also will offer flu vaccines at the center to benefits-eligible employees and dependents covered on a Purdue health plan on a walk-in basis beginning Oct. 1. Patients can simply stop by to receive their flu shots; appointments are not required. Individuals should bring their Purdue University ID (PUID) card or their Anthem medical plan ID card.

Pediatric patients 6 months and older also can receive their flu shots at the CHL beginning Oct. 1.

CHL vaccine information

The CHL will be administering:

  • Fluzone quadrivalent vaccine, which is designed to protect against four different flu viruses: two influenza A viruses and two influenza B viruses. It is approved for anyone ages 6 months and older. 
  • Flublok quadrivalent vaccine, which is designed to protect against four different flu viruses: two influenza A viruses and two influenza B viruses. It is approved for use in ages 18 years and older. It is preservative and egg-free.

Additional flu shot options

Purdue University Pharmacy (PUP), 575 Stadium Mall Drive – Serving, faculty, staff, students. Walk-ins welcome 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, but preference will be given to those with appointments. Purdue Pharmacy is administering the Flucelvax Quadrivalent Pre-filled Syringe this year. It is a preservative-free, egg-free, latex-free product. 

Employees also can schedule their flu vaccines with their health care providers or at a local pharmacy.   

Earn Healthy Boiler incentive dollars

As a reminder, flu shots are included in the 2022 Healthy Boiler incentive as one of the optional well-being screenings in Step 2 for those 18 years and older. Therefore, those who get their flu shot in 2022 and log completion into the Healthy Boiler portal are eligible for additional incentive dollars.
