Purdue to welcome new director of Purdue University Student Health Center

Purdue will welcome Dr. Brenda Masiga-Crowell as the new senior director of the Purdue University Student Health Center (PUSH) beginning Friday (July 1).

Masiga-Crowell most recently served as the clinical operations leader at University of Alabama-Birmingham Student Health Services. Before joining the team at UAB and transitioning to a career in student health, she served as a clinical quality service specialist at Barnes-Jewish Hospital (Siteman Cancer Center) in St. Louis. She is the annual conference program planner for the American College Health Association, a nationally recognized organization of college health professionals, and previously chaired the organization’s nursing section. Masiga-Crowell is also a team member of the ACHA/Pfizer Vaccine Coverage Project.

“Brenda has a diverse health care and educational background with extensive clinical and management experience in a wide variety of settings,” says Katie Sermersheim, associate vice provost and dean of students. “Her experiences, coupled with her passion for holistic health and wellness, will serve the university and our students well.”

Masiga-Crowell received her Doctor of Nurse Practice from the University of Miami. She earned a Master of Business Administration from the University of Alabama-Birmingham and a Master of Science in Nursing from Saint Louis University. Masiga-Crowell has significant ties to Purdue and the Greater Lafayette community, having given birth to her youngest son at IU Health Arnett Hospital while her husband was finishing his doctoral program at Purdue.

“I am excited to rejoin the Purdue and Greater Lafayette communities to lead PUSH and serve our Boilermakers during this critical and dynamic time for college health,” Masiga-Crowell says.

PUSH provides quality, compassionate, culturally competent and safe care to Purdue students. PUSH’s staff of board-certified physicians and nurse practitioners provide student-oriented primary care as well as ongoing care for chronic conditions.
