Nominations sought for CILMAR intercultural award

Purdue's Center for Intercultural Learning, Mentorship, Assessment and Research (CILMAR) is calling for nominations for its 2022 CILMAR Vision Award.

CILMAR envisions an inclusive and interculturally proficient Purdue community that moves the world forward. Annually since its inception in 2017, CILMAR has honored two Purdue faculty and staff members each spring who exhibit exceptional leadership and innovation in support of its mission to facilitate intercultural learning opportunities for all Boilermakers. The awardees receive a commemorative globe and $1,000 in discretionary funds.

Past awardees include faculty and staff who have implemented collegewide curricular revision, led large-scale assessment initiatives, modeled an intentional focus on intercultural learning in study abroad programming or fostered connections between intercultural and diversity and inclusion goals and programs. For 2022, the following two categories of excellence will receive priority consideration for the award:

  • Nominees who have made innovative pivots in intercultural learning during the pandemic era in the academic classroom, on study abroad or through a Virtual Experiential Intercultural Learning(VEIL) or Collaborative Online Intercultural Learning (COIL) project.
  • Nominees who synthesize intercultural learning with values and practices of diversity, equity, inclusion and belongingness.

Nominators should email the following to cilmar@purdue.edu in a single PDF file attachment:

  • A letter of nomination emphasizing how the nominee’s work has advanced CILMAR’s vision and mission (no more than one page). Competitive nominations will demonstrate outstanding leadership and vision, significant impact on campus culture and/or curriculum and exemplary responsiveness to shifting learner needs at the departmental or institutional level.
  • An abbreviated CV highlighting scholarly and pedagogical work that supports this nomination (no more than one page).
  • A brief endorsement from the nominee’s head of department/school or supervisor (no more than one page).

The email should have a subject heading of "Vision Award Nomination: Nominee Name." Nominations are due by May 29. Self-nomination is allowed and welcomed.
