Transformative work continues this summer for construction, landscape projects on West Lafayette campus

Another summer has arrived, which means construction, renovation and repair projects will progress on the West Lafayette campus. In addition to several capital projects and road repairs, nearly 500 trees will be planted as part of the 1869 Tree Planting Master Plan.

As a result of this ongoing work, the following sidewalk, road and parking restrictions will be in place during the coming months:

David and Bonnie Brunner Purdue Veterinary Medical Hospital Complex: Progress on the roof, exterior façades and building interiors continues at the three new facilities that make up the David and Bonnie Brunner Purdue Veterinary Medical Hospital Complex. Only a limited amount of spaces are available near Lynn Hall of Veterinary Medicine for specific business parking needs.

Construction on Dudley Hall and Lambertus Hall Work will continue throughout the summer at Dudley Hall and Lambertus Hall, located near the intersection of Grant Street and Northwestern Avenue. The facility will be open in January 2023. (Photo provided by Administrative Operations Communications)

Dudley Hall and Lambertus Hall: Exterior and interior work, including roofing, masonry, electric and wall framing, continues at Dudley Hall and Lambertus Hall. Increased truck traffic will continue near Grant Street and Northwestern Avenue due to material deliveries.

Marc and Sharon Hagle Hall: Structural work will continue this summer on Hagle Hall, the new Bands & Orchestras building. Road, parking and sidewalk disruptions remain in place near the intersection of North Russell Street and Third Street.

Purdue Memorial Union: The ground floor renovation of the Purdue Memorial Union (PMU) is ongoing. As part of the project, construction on two new outdoor terraces will last throughout the summer and into the fall semester. Most sidewalks south of PMU and the shared-use path immediately north of State Street in the area will close. Occasional lane restrictions along a section of westbound State Street will also be in place as truck traffic accesses the site.

Road repairs: Various road repairs across campus are scheduled. One of these projects includes two phases of closures for North Martin Jischke Drive between State Street and the Córdova Recreational Sports Center (CREC) access drive. Access to the CREC will be maintained throughout the summer. Other repairs will take place on Third Street near Elliott Hall of Music and Tower Drive near the North Martin Jischke Drive intersection.

1869 Tree Planting Master Plan: The 1869 Tree Planting Master Plan calls for planting 3,738 trees by fiscal year 2025. The total number of trees was determined by doubling 1,869, which is the year Purdue was founded. Tree planting will continue this summer — most notably near First Street Towers, the VOSS model in Discovery Park and the roundabout at McCormick Road and Stadium Avenue. Intermittent sidewalk and road disruptions are possible while crews are planting the trees.

In addition to these University projects, the Purdue Research Foundation has ongoing work along State Street near Airport Road/McCormick Road for the development of Provenance at Discovery Park District.

Construction updates will continue to be posted on the Physical Facilities construction and travel notices webpage, where an online construction map and printable construction map are available.
