Workshop to focus on dining with diabetes; register by Nov. 3

The Center for Healthy Living on Purdue’s West Lafayette campus, in partnership with Purdue Extension Tippecanoe County, is offering a four-session, two-week program focused on learning how to dine with diabetes.

“Dining with Diabetes” meets every Monday and Thursday beginning Nov. 4 and ending Nov. 14. Sessions are held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Lyles-Porter Hall's Demo Kitchen, Room 1107.

Geared toward individuals living with Type 1, Type 2 or pre-diabetes -- as well as anyone interested in how food and more affects those living with diabetes or pre-diabetes -- the sessions cover a variety of topics including:

  • Nutrition’s role in diabetes management.
  • The importance of eating more fruits and vegetables.
  • The benefits of increasing dairy intake.
  • How to practice behaviors that are more helpful for food prep and cooking.

Those interested should register by Nov. 3 via the Healthy Boiler Portal (registration link can be found under “Wellness Events” on the portal’s homepage) or by calling Purdue Extension Tippecanoe County at 765-474-0793.

Workshops provided by the Center for Healthy Living (and in conjunction with Purdue Extension) are free to all benefits-eligible faculty and staff and dependents covered on a Purdue medical plan.
