Women’s Global Health Institute names new director, associate director

Purdue’s Women’s Global Health Institute has appointed two College of Health and Human Sciences faculty members in its top leadership roles. Dorothy Teegarden, professor of nutrition science, is WGHI’s new director. Ulrike Dydak, professor of health sciences, is the institute’s new associate director.

Teegarden received her PhD in human nutrition and nutritional biology from the University of Chicago and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the departments of Biochemistry and Nutrition Science at Purdue. She has been a faculty member in the Department of Nutrition Science since 1994. Teegarden previously served as associate dean for research and graduate programs for the College of Health and Human Sciences and as a University Faculty Scholar.

Dydak received her PhD and postdoctoral training in physics and biomedical engineering at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zürich, Switzerland. She holds an adjunct appointment in the Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences at IU School of Medicine. Dydak has been at Purdue since 2007, and serves as a University Faculty Scholar and as the founding director of the Purdue Life Science MRI Facility.

WGHI studies gender-based biological and socioeconomic status differences that affect the health and well-being of women and girls throughout the world. The institute delivers solutions through research, training and technology commercialization both nationally and internationally. It is an affiliate of the Purdue Institute of Inflammation, Immunology and Infectious Disease in Discovery Park.
