Student trustee callouts begin this week

Do you know a great student leader who would make an excellent representative to the University's Board of Trustees? If so, now is the time to encourage them to apply.

The Board of Trustees is the Purdue system's top governing body, composed of 10 trustees, including one student serving a two-year term. Applications for the 2019-21 student trustee position are now being accepted.

“Serving on Purdue’s Board of Trustees has truly been one of the highlights of my time as a student,” says current student trustee Daniel Romary. “Participating in strategic decision making and building relationships with a variety of University stakeholders has not only allowed me to make a positive impact, but it has also greatly enriched my educational experience. I am excited for the next student trustee to also have these opportunities.”

Applicants must be a student at the West Lafayette, Purdue University Fort Wayne or Purdue University Northwest campus and have two or more years remaining as a full-time undergraduate, graduate and/or professional student. Students on the West Lafayette campus who wish to pursue this opportunity may attend callouts at either 6 p.m. today (Nov. 19) in Beering Hall, Room 2280, or 6 p.m. Nov. 26 in Stewart Center, Room 320. For interested students on the PFW campus, a callout will be held at noon Nov. 28 in Helmke Library, Room 275. A callout on the PNW campus will be announced soon.

Applications are due Jan. 11 and will be reviewed by a search committee led by Olivia Keller, vice president of Purdue Student Government. Ten finalists will be selected and their names will be sent to Gov. Eric Holcomb for consideration. The governor is expected to appoint the student in June.

“Interested students are strongly encouraged to apply for this position,” Keller says. “It’s one of the highest honors to be selected by Gov. Holcomb and provides a great opportunity for students to develop themselves both personally and professionally while serving on the board.”
