Employees encouraged to review their progress as Healthy Boiler 2018 comes to a close

The 2018 Healthy Boiler Wellness Program, introduced to promote wellness within the University community, will come to an end on Sept. 30. Employees are encouraged to input any remaining completed objectives and review their progress on the Healthy Boiler Portal by the Sept. 30 completion deadline.

“With only 27 percent engagement so far, we are hoping to see an increase in activity at the end of September,” says Candace Shaffer, director of benefits in Human Resources. “The program encourages our employees to engage in objectives to better their overall health and well-being and gives them the control to do so at their own pace. While the program is the conduit, the employees have full responsibility and power for their Healthy Boiler Wellness achievements and subsequent incentive earnings. The program’s approach aligns well with our focus on being good health care consumers. Through the program, their engagement or reverse consumerism, so to speak, controls the timing and amount of money earned. 2018 has been a great start to a program we have more plans for in the future.”

As a reminder, eligibility to receive the incentive requires completing and logging the three objectives listed below into the Healthy Boiler portal:

* Select a primary care provider -- $50, employee or spouse only. $100, employee and spouse.

* Complete a physical and biometrics -- $100, employee or spouse only. $200, employee and spouse.

* Complete two pre-approved wellness activities from two different categories -- $100,  employee or spouse only. $200, employee and spouse.

Activities can be completed in any order at any time between Jan. 1 and Sept. 30, 2018; however, to receive the earned incentive payment, objective 1 must be completed in order to be paid for objective 2, and objectives 1 and 2 must be completed to be eligible to receive payment for objective 3. The pre-approved activities in objective 3 must be from two separate categories.

For example, if an employee ran a 5K in January, it will still count as an approved activity, but he or she will not receive funds until tasks 1 and 2 are also completed. The same applies to task 2 and task 3. For example, an individual could have finished a 5K and attended a wellness education workshop in January (task 3) and then got an annual physical and submitted biometrics in June (task 2), but the employee won’t receive the funds for those until he or she has identified his or her primary care provider (task 1).

Log completed objectives and review progress

Through the Healthy Boiler Portal, employees log their information in regard to the tasks above and also keep track of their progress. From the Earn tab in the top navigation of the portal, employees have instructions on how to identify their primary care provider (two-step objective), download and subsequently upload the completed provider form needed for the biometrics screening (two-step objective) and log their wellness activities.  Please note, objective 1 and objective 2 have two parts to complete – part “a” and part “b.” Those objectives will not show as complete and will not qualify for incentive payment until both steps have been performed.

At the bottom of the Earn Rewards page, each employee’s (or spouse’s) progress for 2018 is shown under “2018 Progress.” Employees will see a graph representing the number of points acquired to date and the three program objectives listed below it. Points are automatically earned for tracking a variety of physical activities based on the intensity and amount of time spent doing the activity. When a green check mark shows beside a respective objective that means it was successfully recorded. The green check marks are the best indicator of an employee’s progress toward earning incentives. See the example at right.

As a reminder, to qualify for the incentive, the three tasks must be completed and logged into the wellness portal between Jan. 1 and Sept. 30. There will be no exceptions for the time frame and Sept. 30 end date.
