Purdue’s rankings in 2018 RecycleMania competition

Results for the two-month RecycleMania contest, in which participating higher education institutions reported amounts of recycled and waste materials, have been announced. Purdue ranked highly in a number of categories in the state of Indiana and performed well overall. A summary of Purdue’s results follows:

* First in Indiana and ninth out of 48 institutions in the e-Waste category with more than 64,000 pounds collected.

* First in Indiana and 20th out of 168 institutions in the Food Organics category.

* First in Indiana and 23rd out of 229 institutions in the Total Recycling category.

* Second in Indiana and 76th out of 170 institutions in the Diversion category.

During the RecycleMania competition, Purdue’s residence halls formed teams to take part in a friendly recycling competition, and in total, they diverted nearly 150,000 pounds of materials from entering the landfills. Team results are included below.

* First place: “Cornerstone” (Honors College, Meredith Residence Hall and Third Street Suites)

* Second place: “Mosaic Mile” (First Street Towers, Hawkins Hall and Hillenbrand Residence Hall)

* Third place: “Legacy Lane” (Shreve, Earhart, Harrison and McCutcheon residence halls)

* Fourth place: “District of Tradition” (Cary Quadrangle and Owen, Tarkington and Wiley residence halls)

* Fifth place: “Apartments” (Hilltop Apartments and Purdue Village).

On an individual level, the top four residence hall diversion rates were championed by Hillenbrand Residence Hall, Earhart Residence Hall, Third Street Suites and Meredith Residence Hall, respectively.
