Call for entries for JA BizTown student sign design contest

The Office of Engagement is sponsoring a student sign design contest for JA BizTown and is seeking entries from Purdue undergraduate students.

Students may enter as individuals or teams of no more than three students. All entrants must be full-time degree-seeking Purdue undergraduate students at the main campus, statewide Polytechnic Institute locations or regional campuses.

The sign should be a looping digital slideshow of at least two slides created to run on a TV monitor hung in portrait orientation. The first slide must contain the message “3D Parts Manufacturing Powered by Purdue University.” Subsequent slides must be user-changeable to provide messaging for JA BizTown, such as a welcome or thank-you message, and contain the logos for Purdue and 3D Parts Manufacturing. Entries must be submitted by close of business Sept. 29. A full list of rules of specifications may be found here.

Submissions will be judged on the basis of adherence to specifications, presentation, creativity, ease of use and more. Five finalists will be notified on or before Oct. 19 and will be invited to attend the ribbon cutting Oct. 26 at JA BizTown. The winning individual or team will be announced at the ribbon cutting and will receive a $300 Amazon gift card. Up to four finalists will receive a $50 Amazon gift card.

During July, Purdue, 3D Parts Manufacturing LLC and Pepper Construction announced their partnership to construct a newly redesigned storefront at JA BizTown in Indianapolis. In the newly redesigned storefront, fifth grade students learn about advanced manufacturing.

“I’m hoping our students around the state jump on this, and think it will be a fun way to help younger students learn about careers in advanced manufacturing while at the same time highlighting Purdue’s support of JA BizTown,” said Barbara J. Alder, director of the Office of Engagement for Metropolitan Indianapolis.

JA BizTown, a program of Junior Achievement of Central Indiana, is aimed at introducing fifth-grade students to life in a real working community, combining classroom curriculum with hands-on experience as students learn about being part of a community through holding actual jobs.
