Upcoming workshop at Center for Healthy Living to focus on weight management

The West Lafayette Center for Healthy Living will offer its third weight management program of 2016. The six-week program begins June 23. The program is targeted for individuals who are in the process of losing weight or seeking motivation and tools to begin their weight loss journey.

Cheryl Laszynski, a center certified health and wellness coach, will lead the program. Throughout the program, Laszynski will help individuals identify issues that contribute to being overweight, assist in developing goals and strategies for successful weight loss and maintenance, and provide support and guidance to each participant. The program will include presentations from special guests in the areas of nutritional counseling and physical activity, as well as offer 10 free visits over a 30-day period at Purdue’s recreational center for those without a membership.

“Weight loss and weight management is a common goal for many,” Laszynski says. “I also know that these things can be frustrating and without a good support system even more so. As a nurse and wellness coach, I know the common ups and downs of a weight loss journey and will be able to provide support and encouragement while also showing them that reaching and maintaining a healthy weight is possible. The program helps individuals learn tips that become habits to help take control of their nutrition and movement to help make their goals a reality.”

A true testament about how the Center for Healthy Living can play a positive role in someone achieving a healthy weight and lifestyle is evident in the success of Rebecca Stevenson.

The first session begins June 23 and meets weekly on Thursdays through Aug. 4. Class will not meet the week of July 4.

Register by June 20 by calling 494-5505. Limited seats are available for this small group format.

Sessions will take place in the center’s conference room for an increased interactive approach with the center’s health coach. Benefits-eligible staff members at all regional campuses also are available to use the center’s health coaching options via telephonic and portal healthy coaching support.

Center for Healthy Living programs and workshops are free for benefits-eligible faculty and staff and for spouses/same-sex domestic partners covered on a Purdue medical plan. Adult dependents covered on a Purdue medical plan as well as benefits-eligible employees who have opted out of a Purdue medical plan also can attend free of charge.
