Jones' will to survive school to American icons in the Singing for Peace and Justice film series, from Philip Glass' etudes embodying his desire to elevate his piano artistry to "Annie," the all-time tribute to optimism. Not to mention two quirky theatrical romances and Purdue athletics. It's a multifaceted salute to believing. Don't Miss It!

The Chinese New Year's Reception is fun for the entire campus, so don't monkey (hint, hint) around. Plan to attend at 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. in the PMU South Ballroom. Details

FEBRUARY 9

Films in the Singing for Peace and Justice series will show on consecutive Tuesdays (Feb. 9, 16, 23) and feature historically important artists Paul Robeson, Pete Seeger and Joan Baez. An event for Black History Month. Each 7-9 p.m. in Beering Hall, Room 2290. Details

FEBRUARY 10

The Purdue Lectures in Ethics, Policy, and Science spring schedule of four events will open with "Culture, Poverty, and Justice: Responsibilities of Individuals and Institutions" by Eric Weber, a law school and philosophy professor at the University of Mississippi known for engaging in public matters. 5:30-7 p.m. Burton D. Morgan Center for Entrepreneurship, Room 121. Details

FEBRUARY 11

"Annie" will make the sun come out when the musical's national tour comes at 7 p.m. in Elliott Hall of Music. $. Details

It's an Evening of Romance featuring the Purdue Jazz Band and cabaret-themed atmosphere plus hors d'oeuvres and dessert buffet, all 8-10 p.m. in Marriott Hall. $. Details

FEBRUARY 14

In "Junie B.'s Essential Survival Guide to School," the book series becomes a Theatreworks USA musical. With a Purdue Convocations pre-show at 2 p.m. Show at 3 p.m. STEW, Loeb Playhouse. $. Details

Sports week. As always, it's time to play hard.
* Men's basketball will battle Michigan State at 7 p.m. Feb. 9. $. Men's basketball
* Indoor track and field (M&W) hosts the Fred Wilt Invitational on Feb. 12-13. Track and field
* Men's tennis hopes to net two wins Feb. 13: Valparaiso at 4 p.m., Indiana Tech at 8 p.m. Men's tennis
* Women's tennis will try to blow past Tulsa at noon Feb. 14. Women's tennis

"A Moon for the Misbegotten," Eugene O'Neill's sole romance, comes to Purdue in a performance by the Walnut Street Theatre. 7:30 p.m. STEW, Loeb Playhouse. $. Details

FEBRUARY 19

Purdue Theatre brings on the opening night of "The Liar," which truly is filled with laughs. The show's run will be nine performances through Feb. 28 in Pao Hall's Nancy T. Hansen Theatre. $. Details

Wind Works featuring Purdue's Wind Ensemble and Collegiate Band will warm up winter. 8 p.m. On Feb. 21, the Concert Band and University Band will stoke the fire at 2:30 pm. Both at the Long Center, Lafayette. Details
