New process for hazardous (chemical), biological, radioactive waste pickup requests coming Monday
The Environmental Health and Safety department within Administrative Operations will be implementing a new pickup request process for lab and other wastes Monday (July 3).
The system, Environmental Health and Safety Assistant (EHSA), will use Purdue Login, which replaces BoilerKey, to submit waste pickup requests for biological, hazardous (chemical) and radioactive materials. EHSA will create consistency among customer requests and streamline the submission process through a single online system. Users will also benefit from increased transparency by being able to see submitted requests. A number of EHSA advantages include access to electronic records, the ability to create waste pickup request templates, the ease of duplicating repeat pickup requests and an opportunity to request supplies such as disposal tags online.
An additional benefit is that radioactive materials will be inventoried in EHSA, and material levels will automatically be adjusted as waste pickup requests are completed for each lab.
Faculty, staff and students who work in labs across campus or have a role in submitting waste pickup requests should be aware that the Word documents, PDFs, Qualtrics forms and other informal methods such as phone calls currently being used will no longer be available or accepted beginning Monday.
Additional information, including training opportunities and resources for the new process, will be added to the Environmental Health and Safety website soon.
