Materials Distribution FAQ

How are campus mailings handled?

Quantity mailings that involve several pieces of campus mail addressed to the same building should be bundled by the building and secured with string or rubber band. As a general rule, mailing of five pieces or more per building fall under this procedure. The bundles will be delivered intact to the designated building.

All blank spaces on campus envelopes should be properly filled out to assure prompt delivery. The space marked "From" should be completed so that the envelope can be returned to the sender if address is incorrect. Do not discard campus envelopes until all blank spaces have been used. When supply is available, we can furnish used campus envelopes, which you can request using this form. Please note: Campus mail is not scanned or tracked. If you have important documents, please do not use campus mail.

When does my campus mail pick up occur and are they ever early on the schedule?

Please see our schedule page for your building's pickup. Our drivers do not leave your location early, but based on volumes can be there at the scheduled time or later for deliveries and pickups. To allow for consistent pickups, our drivers may be late (and will never pick up early) to assure that your outgoing packages are picked up on a scheduled time each day.

I have a large crate to ship out. Can you package and ship it for me?

Typically, we do not package outgoing freight due to liability issues. On a case-by-case basis, please contact our shipping clerk at 765-494-7103 for assistance and recommendations.

How are personal mail and packages handled on campus?

MDS should not be used for delivery of personal materials.

All personal mail and packages should be addressed to a staff member's home address.

Outgoing personal packages should not be left at campus pickup areas, but should be taken directly to the U.S. Post Office or deposited in official U.S. Post Office boxes.

How is mail for residence halls handled?

All student mail and packages (ZIP code 47906) are served by the U.S. Post Office or small package carriers (UPS/Fed Ex) directly to the residence halls. If you have tracking questions, please contact the appropriate carrier.

What regional campus courier services are available?

Materials Distribution Services ships daily to the following regional campuses; Fort Wayne (IPFW), Calumet, North Central and IUPUI.

Use regular campus envelopes and deposit them in the "Campus" side of the building mailbox. The campus name should appear in the space marked "Department." Packages over 11 oz. will not be shipped through the courier service, but should be shipped by UPS or mailed by the U.S. Postal Service, under your department account.

How do I recycle my old printer cartridges through Distribution Management?

Please send your old cartridges via campus mail to MMDC CARTRIDGE RETURN. We will make sure that your old cartridge is recycled in a safe non-landfill manner.
