Make Your Healthcare Dollars Go Farther

The cost of healthcare is a regular part of your budget. To get more bang for your buck and make your healthcare dollars go farther, keep these cost-savings measures in mind:
  • See in-network providers. You will always pay less (and receive a higher coverage level from the medical plan). And you can maximize that savings even more with a provider in the HealthSync network. (See the “HealthSync: High Care, Low Cost” section below.)
  • Use our on-site (West Lafayette campus) Center for Healthy Living (CHL) for free and discounted services. In addition to primary care services and chronic care management, the center offers telephonic support for nutrition, stress management, physical activity and more, so all employees have access to a variety of resources.
  • Get generic prescriptions. They are free or $10-or-less with Purdue’s medical plan.
  • Take advantage of our free preventive services. You stay on top of your health and you pay nothing for it.
  • Participate in the Healthy Boiler Wellness Program. Complete the requirements and earn incentives up to $325 per eligible employee or spouse. That money can be used for labs, prescriptions and other out-of-pocket healthcare expenses.
  • If you have a chronic illness, make sure you’re taking all the right steps to manage it. The health coaches at the CHL and Purdue Fort Wayne can help you manage chronic conditions such as type 2 diabetes, asthma, obesity and more. You’ll be healthier, and your expenses will be more manageable. Schedule at 765-494-0111 (CHL) or 260-481-6651 for in-person or telehealth appointments.

Compare Costs so You Know Before Your Go

Where you seek medical care can literally mean a difference of hundreds of dollars. Be aware of the differences before you go so there are no “surprises.” Reserve the emergency room for life-threatening situations, and consider less expensive options — primary care provider, Center for Healthy Living, urgent care clinic or LiveHealth Online — for non-emergency situations.
