HLA at the Indiana Small Farm Conference

Ashley Adair, Chris Adair, Moriah Bilenky, Emmanuel Cooper, Celia Corado, Josué Cerritos García, Wenjing Guan, Petrus Langenhoven, Liz Maynard, Steve Meyers, Karen Mitchell, Jean Zavala and Linda Prokopy all attended the Indiana Small Farm Conference, which took place 2/29 and 3/1 last week.

Ashley Adair presented a cover crops demonstration on 2/29 and facilitated the Networking Luncheon on 3/1.

Chris Adair tabled at the Horticulture and Landscape Architecture trade show booth and hosted a Networking Luncheon table on Community Supported Agriculture on 3/1.

Emmanuel Cooper (MS/Meyers’ Lab) presented a poster titled “Effect of buckwheat and silage tarps on sweetpotato row-middle weed control.”

Wenjing Guan served as a panelist on the topic Protected Culture Selection and Optimization and presented during the Lightning Round Research Updates from Purdue Specialists.

Petrus Langenhoven presented a talk titled “High Tunnel Sweet Pepper Variety Selection Update,” two posters in conjunction with Assistant ANR Program Leader Nathan Shoaf on “Impact of Soil Fertility Amendments and Cover Cropping on Soil Health” and “Building Soil Health: Sustainable Management Approaches to Overcome Production Challenges,” served on a panel discussion on protected culture selection and optimization, and hosted a Small Farm Research Needs discussion at the Networking Luncheon.

Linda Prokopy hosted a table at the Networking Luncheon on the topic “Climate Change and the Small Farm.”

Liz Maynard presented a talk titled “Always Learning Something: Vegetable Trials at Pinney Purdue in 2023” and tabled at the HLA booth on the trade show floor.

Steve Meyers presented during the Lightning Round Research Updates from Purdue Specialists and hosted a table at the Networking Luncheon on the topic “Weeds! – Exploring Sustainable Management Options” alongside Celia Corado and Nathan Shoaf.

Jean Zavala (MS/Torres’ Lab) presented a poster titled “The Economics of Biocontrols.”

Karen Mitchell tabled at the HLA booth on the trade show floor. Across both days of the conference, the booth made meaningful connections with 68 participants!
