The Community Standards Committee wrapped up this year’s lunch and learn series with a vibrant celebration of Central American culture, cuisine, and community. The well-attended event featured presentations from several graduate students and visiting scholars who shared insights about their home countries and traditional foods.
Attendees had the opportunity to sample authentic Central American cuisine, including Honduran baleadas, a popular street food consisting of flour tortillas filled with refried beans and other toppings. The gathering also featured an array of regional snacks, beverages including sodas and tropical juices, and delicious tres leches cake for dessert.
Special thanks go to presenters Mario Muñoz, Josué Cerritos, Celia Corado, Siria Cárdenas, Jeanine Arana, and Kayla Quintero for their engaging presentations about the region. The event was further enhanced by Lian Durón, who generously provided coffee grown on her family’s farm in Honduras.
This cultural exchange proved to be a fitting conclusion to this academic year’s lunch and learn series, highlighting the diverse perspectives and rich traditions represented in our academic community.
