Brian Harley is Senior Director and Associate Dean of Study Abroad, bringing over 30 years of education abroad experience. Prior to joining Purdue (2002), he worked with a study abroad consortium during which he was Assistant Director, then India Study Center Resident Director, concluding as Academic Officer. Dr. Harley is active in Purdue campus-wide committees including the Global Academic Committee (GAC) and the Security and Risk Assessment Committee (SRAC).  Brian was a former chair of the Big Ten Academic Alliance/BTAA Study Abroad Directors Group (née Committee on Institutional Cooperation/CIC).  He was formerly on the Academic Consortium Board (ACB) of The Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) as well as the Executive Committee of The Institute for Study Abroad (IFSA). Currently, he serves on the Education First (EF) Study Abroad Blue-Sky Roundtable advising group (2026-2028). Originally from northeast Indiana, Dr. Harley holds a B.S. (Biology-Chemistry) from Manchester University (formerly Manchester College) and both an M.A. and Ph.D. (Sociology) from The Pennsylvania State University.
