Welcome to the Multicultural Greek Council (MGC)

About MGC

The Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) was established at Purdue University in 2003 to serve as a governing body; to create and maintain high standards in the life of culturally-based Fraternities and Sororities by addressing, managing and creating strategic programming; to unify organizations involved in MGC; and to have a positive relationship between MGC, other fraternity/sorority councils, the university student body and administration, thus improving campus life. Events that we typically have are;

Block Party:

  • The Block Party is held at the beginning of the Fall Semester where organizations apart of MGC can table and get to know each other. Typically The National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) and Purdue Cultural Centers join us in the back to school block party. Food, Strolling, and games occur during this event.

Stroll Competition:

  • A Stroll is a line dance, usually participated by members of a NPHC or culturally-based Greek-letter organizations. This is a visual representation of the bond that ties together members of an organization. During this event organizations apart of MGC will compete to showcase their strolls with special NPHC Guest Judges.

Week of Events:

  • Week of Events are hosted every semester, where each organization gets a designated week to host events available for everyone. During their week they also host events for the Purdue community which include fun activities, educational series, and community service activities!

Painting the Diversity Tree:

  • Painting the diversity tree is a tradition for all of the culturally based Greek-Letter organizations (MGC and NPHC) and it allows them to show off their letters and organization since these orgs do not have a physical space on campus. Each of the different orgs get to paint the tree during a week

All MGC organizations conduct recruitment individually through open recruitment events.  We currently have organizations that are Asian, LatinX, and LGBTQ+ interest. These organizations host events throughout the year to be able to get to know students. Most conduct recruitment at the beginning of each semester. The best way to get to know the organizations is to reach out to a member and ask what the process looks like. MGC organizations that do intake appreciate discretion prior to and during the intake process. Visit our chapter page learn more about each organization and who you can contact. Or, you can reach out to a MGC officer and they can help you directly!
