DUIRI and Purdue e-Pubs
The Discovery Undergraduate Interdisciplinary Research Internship (DUIRI) program partners with Purdue e-Pubs to archive and share the scholarly work produced by undergraduate researchers at Purdue. This collaboration ensures that student projects are made openly accessible to the academic community, supporting Purdue’s mission of transparency, accessibility, and innovation in research dissemination. Posting on Purdue e-Pubs serves as the final step of the DUIRI experience and fulfills the program’s publication and documentation requirements.
Updated Purdue e-Pubs Policies
Purdue e-Pubs provides open access to the intellectual output of Purdue’s scholarly community. The following policies apply to all submissions:
-
Extended Abstract Requirement: Purdue e-Pubs no longer accepts abstract-only records. Each submission must include an extended abstract with scholarly substance alongside a short abstract. The extended abstract should accompany a primary research document such as a poster or paper.
-
File Association: Every published record must include a downloadable file. Abstract-only metadata without an attached file is no longer permitted.
-
Faculty Coordinator Awareness: Faculty co-authors and mentors must be informed prior to publication, as their names will appear publicly with the student record.
-
ADA Compliance: All published files must be accessible and meet ADA standards. Once submissions are finalized, Purdue e-Pubs staff will assist in file remediation before publication.
-
Publication Requirement: Purdue e-Pubs cannot be used solely for submission or review. Accepted works must be published and publicly accessible through the repository.
DUIRI Implementation Plan
-
Extended Abstract and Poster: Each DUIRI submission will include both an abstract and the student’s research poster presented at the OUR Undergraduate Research Conference.
-
Mandatory File Upload: All participants must submit a downloadable PDF poster with their abstract as part of the e-Pubs submission process.
-
Faculty Notification: Faculty mentors will be notified and included in all communication regarding publication and must approve content before submission.
-
Accessibility Support: DUIRI will coordinate with Purdue e-Pubs staff to ensure that all files are reviewed and remediated for ADA compliance prior to publication.
-
Use as Submission Portal: DUIRI will continue to use Purdue e-Pubs primarily as a submission portal, while the Undergraduate Research Symposium presentation component fulfills the program’s public dissemination goal.
